APECS Germany

The German National Committee of the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) was founded in July 2016. We unite a steadily growing number of members, from Bachelor, Master and PhD students, postdocs, to newly appointed faculty and other people with an interest in the polar regions.

The aims of APECS Germany are:

  • Networking and supporting young scientists in polar research
  • Promoting interest in polar research among the general public
  • Dissemination of information via newsletters, social media and website
  • Representation of young scientists in the German and international research landscape

Our activities are organised by the APECS Germany Board, which consists of around 10 to 15 young scientists from all over Germany. In recent years, we have organised seminars on topics such as funding, science communication, career opportunities and field work. We are committed to equal opportunities and diversity in polar research and welcome everyone to our activities and aim to create spaces that are accessible to all and free from discrimination.

In addition to activities such as regular posts on social media, many members of the APECS Germany Board are also involved in various societies and associations. For example, we are represented in the German Society for Polar Research, where we are able to address a very young target group with the Polar Teachers’ Working Group, among others.
